Tamil Nadu to deploy 5,400 special buses for festival rush

Tamil Nadu’s State Transport Undertakings will deploy 5,400 special buses from September 10 to September 14 to accommodate a surge in passenger demand. The increased services coincide with Vinayaka Chaturthi, auspicious wedding dates, and an extended weekend.

Major transit hubs will manage the bulk of the operations. The Kilambakkam bus terminus is set to handle 3,520 outward special services between Thursday and Sunday. Koyambedu will operate 240 special buses on Friday and Saturday, and 105 on Sunday, connecting Chennai to destinations including Bengaluru and Hosur. The Madhavaram terminus will provide 110 extra daily services from Friday to Sunday, serving areas such as Vellore and Puducherry.

According to the Managing Director of the State Express Transport Corporation, booking numbers are significant, with 32,171 tickets booked for Friday and 18,772 for Saturday. Passengers are advised to use official digital platforms to book in advance to avoid overcrowding.
