Tamil Nadu to establish 26 new POCSO special courts

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the establishment of 26 new special courts for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. This initiative, directed by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, aims to expedite trials and ensure swift justice for victims of crimes against children.

The expansion includes 12 new special courts and 14 additional special courts, with a total budget of Rs 46.59 crore. Once operational, the state will have a total of 52 special courts across 47 police districts dedicated exclusively to POCSO cases.

Additionally, the government is setting up four new special courts for cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This move is part of the “Drug-Free Tamil Nadu” campaign intended to curb drug trafficking and abuse by fast-tracking legal proceedings.
