Tamil Nadu to fill 9,000 assistant professor vacancies

Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P Viswanathan has announced plans to fill 9,000 assistant professor vacancies in government colleges over the next two years. The recruitment will be conducted in three phases through the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB). The first phase, completed in 2025, appointed 2,708 candidates from 42,000 applicants, while the subsequent two phases will each involve 3,000 appointments.

During a consultation meeting at Bharathidasan University, the Minister addressed demands from students and faculty regarding infrastructure and laboratory facilities. He stated that the state government has allocated Rs 1,000 crore to improve college infrastructure to meet these needs.

Additionally, the Minister noted that the honorarium for approximately 8,000 guest lecturers has been increased by Rs 5,000. Regarding the appointment of Vice-Chancellors to five universities, Viswanathan indicated the matter is currently before the court, though Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is working toward appointments through proper negotiations.
