Tamil Nadu to launch renewable energy project portal on October 1

The Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) plans to launch an online portal on October 1 to facilitate applications for new solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects. This initiative aims to increase renewable energy production amid ongoing power shortages in the state.

The proposed application process consists of ten stages, including requests for grid connectivity. Applicants must provide basic project information and pay application fees and security deposits. Following an initial review by the Superintending Engineer (Solar) within 10 days, developers must respond to any requests for clarification within 30 days. Once a proposal is accepted, a feasibility report will be prepared, and developers will have six months to submit land-related documentation.

TNGECL aims to add at least 1,500 MW of solar capacity with battery energy storage systems by the end of the current fiscal year. These storage systems are intended to manage fluctuations in solar power production and improve electricity availability during peak demand. While the portal is expected to formalize the submission process for various renewable projects, industry representatives have called for clarity regarding whether the portal will utilize existing formats established by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission.
