Tamil Nadu to operate 2,725 special buses for weekend rush
The State Transport Corporations in Tamil Nadu will operate 2,725 special buses from October 23 to 25 to manage increased passenger traffic. The surge in travel is attributed to the weekend holidays, auspicious muhurtham dates, and Pournami.
Special services will depart from several major terminals. From the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam, 775 buses will run on Friday and 485 on Saturday, serving destinations such as Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Tirupur. The Koyambedu terminal will operate 95 buses on Friday and 85 on Saturday toward locations including Nagapattinam, Hosur, and Bengaluru. Madhavaram terminus will provide 65 buses daily on Friday and Saturday to areas like Vellore and Puducherry.
To assist passengers returning to Chennai and Bengaluru, 805 special buses are scheduled for Sunday, October 25. The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) reported significant advance bookings, with over 16,000 passengers already booked for Sunday. Additional officials have been deployed at major terminals to monitor operations and assist travelers.
