Tamil Nadu's TVK forms SSJV Alliance and completes first Budget session

The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and its partners have announced the formation of the Secular Social Justice Vettri (SSJV) Alliance. Led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, the alliance includes the Congress, IUML, VCK, and MDMK. While the group will operate in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, constituents have yet to reach a consensus on a prime ministerial candidate for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

In legislative developments, the Tamil Nadu Assembly has completed its first full Budget session of the 17th Assembly. Speaker JCD Prabhakar received praise from various political leaders, including former Chief Minister M K Stalin, for his impartial conduct of proceedings. The session highlighted an emerging political contest between Chief Minister Vijay and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, particularly during debates regarding law and order.
