Tamil playback singer Krishnaraj dies at 75
Veteran Tamil playback singer Krishnaraj Ramasamy has passed away in Chennai at the age of 75. Known for his distinctive voice, he recorded more than 300 songs for various Tamil films, including Paruthiveeran, Arunachalam, and Kadhal Kottai.
One of his most notable achievements was the track ‘Thanjavooru Mannu Eduthu’ from the 1997 film Porkkaalam, for which he received the Tamil Nadu State Government Award for Best Playback Singer. The song gained international recognition when it was played at the 2016 funeral of former Singapore President Sellapan Ramanathan.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and actor Sarathkumar expressed their grief, with Vijay describing the singer's death as a “great loss to Tamil cinema.” Krishnaraj’s passing follows the recent deaths of frequent collaborator composer Deva and actor Karthik Sabesh.
