Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam alliance to meet September 9

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led alliance in Tamil Nadu is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting on September 9. The gathering aims to discuss the future political structure of the ruling formation and is expected to result in the unveiling of a formal name for the alliance.

TVK ministers and senior leaders have extended invitations to the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) to participate in the deliberations. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is also expected to attend.

The meeting occurs amid growing political tension regarding the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Some TVK legislators have expressed support for projecting Vijay as a prime ministerial candidate, a claim that has been rejected by the Congress party. Congress leadership has maintained that Rahul Gandhi remains its choice for the prime ministerial race, dismissing the TVK members' comments as a “fan mindset.”
