Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and Congress face political friction
Political tensions have emerged within the new alliance in Tamil Nadu between the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and its coalition partner, the Indian National Congress. The friction reportedly stems from disagreements regarding parliamentary election candidate nominations and party influence.
Political critic Vallam Bashir noted that despite TVK leader Vijay providing the Congress party with political relevance and ministerial positions in the government, Congress MP Manickam Tagore has reportedly made disparaging remarks toward TVK and its supporters. Bashir highlighted that while other regional leaders in the INDIA bloc have historically supported Rahul Gandhi's leadership, the Congress party in Tamil Nadu is attempting to pressure TVK regarding prime ministerial candidacy before the national leadership has made such declarations.
