Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidates face campaign backlash

Candidates from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party are facing significant public opposition and allegations of misconduct during by-election campaigns in Tamil Nadu.

In the Dharapuram constituency, TVK candidate Sathyabhama was forced to halt a door-to-door campaign in Periyakumarpalayam after encountering angry residents. Protesters confronted her with allegations regarding the misappropriation of funds and questioned her previous resignation from her MLA position. Similar resistance from farmers and locals has been reported in the Kundadam area regarding water supply and agricultural debt issues.

In the Madurantakam constituency, TVK candidate Maragatham Kumarevel is also facing backlash. Allegations have surfaced regarding the distribution of cash to voters during campaign events, with some reports suggesting amounts of 500 rupees were being offered. This has caused controversy, particularly as party officials had previously denied such practices. Additionally, residents have expressed dissatisfaction over Kumarevel’s decision to switch from the AIADMK to the TVK following a previous resignation.
