Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam names candidates for Madurantakam and Dharapuram bypolls

The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has announced its candidates for the upcoming October 6 Assembly by-elections in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies. The party has selected former AIADMK MLAs K. Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama to contest these seats. Both individuals previously won these constituencies under the AIADMK banner in the April 23 elections before resigning to join the TVK, which created the current vacancies.

The bypolls represent the first electoral test for the TVK-led government. In Madurantakam, the DMK has nominated I. Parandaman, while the AIADMK has fielded Kanitha Sampath. In Dharapuram, the DMK has named S. Suganya, and the AIADMK is fielding K. Banumathi. There are indications that the Naam Tamilar Katchi may also participate, potentially leading to a four-way contest.

The Election Commission has scheduled polling for October 6, with the results and counting set to take place on October 9.
