Tampa Bay Buccaneers adjust quarterback depth following Baker Mayfield injury

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Baker Mayfield injury Jalon Daniels NFL quarterback Brett Rypien

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are adjusting their quarterback depth following a thumb injury to starter Baker Mayfield, which is expected to sideline him for at least three weeks.

Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels is set to take over as the primary starter. Daniels, a former standout at Kansas, made his NFL debut in Week 3. To bolster the roster, the Buccaneers have signed veteran Brett Rypien to the practice squad to serve as emergency depth.

In light of the injury, some analysts have suggested the team consider trading for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson to provide more stability, noting the team's current struggles during Mayfield's absence.
