Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive struggles and rookie development

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing challenges with their pass rush through the first five games of the season, recording only six sacks. While linebackers Alex Anzalone and Josiah Trotter, along with backup pass rushers David Walker and Anthony Nelson, have contributed sacks, primary starters Yaya Diaby and Rueben Bain Jr. have yet to record any. Bain Jr. has dealt with a shoulder injury that caused him to miss two weeks, though co-defensive coordinator Larry Foote noted he appeared fresher during the Week 5 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

In contrast to the struggles of the edge rushers, head coach Todd Bowles highlighted nickel cornerback Keionte Scott as one of the team’s best players. Scott, a fourth-round draft pick, has been praised for his tackling ability and work ethic. Additionally, the team is preparing for an upcoming matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where they will need to contain dynamic offensive threats such as running back Jaylen Warren.
