Tampa Bay Lightning place goaltender Jonas Johansson on waivers

The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed goaltender Jonas Johansson on waivers as the team seeks to move him following the acquisition of Dennis Hildeby. Despite efforts to secure a preseason trade, the Lightning have reportedly faced rejection from potential partners. Johansson, a 31-year-old Swedish netminder, carries an average annual value of $1.2 million for the 2026-27 season.

Hildeby was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 1 in exchange for forward Nick Paul and draft picks. The move was intended to provide the Lightning with more reliable depth behind Andrei Vasilevskiy. Hildeby, a former fourth-round pick, is currently on a manageable deal of $841,000 for two years. His arrival has made Johansson expendable within the Lightning roster.
