Tampa Bay Rays place shortstop Taylor Walls on 10-day injured list

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed shortstop Taylor Walls on the 10-day injured list due to a right hip flexor strain. The move was retroactive to September 6.

Walls, a 30-year-old veteran, has been a key contributor this season, leading the major leagues with 12 sacrifice bunts and ranking highly in fielding runs above average. Manager Kevin Cash expressed optimism that Walls' absence will be brief.

To fill the roster spot, the Rays recalled infielder Nick Madrigal from Triple-A Durham. Jorge Mateo is expected to serve as the primary shortstop during Walls' absence.
