Tampa Electric (TECO) indicated that a surcharge linked to 2024 hurricane recovery will be removed from customer bills on August 1, lowering residential charges by about 11‑12 %. The utility warned that even with the reduction, high summer usage will keep bills elevated. TECO offers flexible payment plans, online and in‑home energy audits, rebates for efficient air‑conditioning equipment, and bill credits through its Prime Time Plus program. Some customers have raised thermostat settings to around 78 °F to curb costs, though this has affected comfort and sleep.
