Tampa’s Crowbar music venue closes after 20 years

Ybor City’s iconic music venue Crowbar will hold its final concert on July 31, 2026, ending a two‑decade run that began in 2006. Co‑owner Tom DeGeorge, who has worked nonstop for weeks to prepare the closing, described the physical toll but also a sense of relief as the venue shutters due to rising rent and the dominance of corporate ticket sellers.

Filmmakers Tyler Riggs and Aaron Hurley, together with photographer Dave Decker, released a three‑part vertical documentary titled “Sacred Space: A Farewell to Crowbar.” The short film follows DeGeorge’s reflections, the venue’s history, and performances by local acts that later achieved national fame. The closing night also featured an indie soundtrack release for “Jellyfish Season,” marking the venue’s last jazz gig.

DeGeorge’s advocacy for independent venues included work with the National Independent Venue Association and a trip to Capitol Hill seeking guidance on Live Nation and Ticketmaster practices. The closure highlights the broader challenges faced by small‑business music spaces in the United States.
