Tampere expands cultural initiatives to combat loneliness

Tampere is implementing various initiatives to increase cultural accessibility and combat loneliness among elderly residents and those facing financial or social barriers.

The ‘Kulttuurikaveri’ (Culture Friend) program, a collaboration between Tampere Mission, Tampere-talo, and LähiTapiola Pirkanmaa, allows individuals to attend cultural events accompanied by a volunteer. Following 12 events last autumn, the program plans to offer 11 additional concerts in the spring of 2026, providing over 200 free cultural visits in total.

Additionally, the City of Tampere is organizing nearly 100 community moments across the city this autumn. These events, which include music, theater, stand-up, and circus, are held at various meeting places managed by the city, organizations, and parishes. Part of the ‘Kaikkien Tampere’ development program, these activities aim to lower participation thresholds for those with limited mobility and improve overall wellbeing through art and culture.
