Tampico authorities commemorate 197th anniversary of Battle of Tampico

Municipal, naval, and civil authorities held a ceremony in Plaza de la Libertad to commemorate the 197th anniversary of the Battle of Tampico. The event honored the historical conflict of 1829 between Mexican and Spanish forces.

During the ceremony, David Granados Ramírez, president of Rescate Histórico de México A. C., detailed the historical context: a Spanish expedition led by Brigadier Isidro Barradas landed in July 1829 with the intent to reconquer Mexico. Following clashes across northern Veracruz and southern Tamaulipas, General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an offensive on August 21, leading to a Mexican victory on September 11, 1829.

The commemoration, led by Mayor Mónica Villarreal Anaya, included the placement of floral offerings and an honor guard at the monument to the Unknown Soldier to remember those who defended the national territory.
