Tampico launches AI‑augmented reality tourism app TampIA

The municipal government of Tampico, led by Mayor Mónica Villarreal Anaya, signed a collaboration agreement with the Universidad Tecnológica de Altamira. The partnership will develop “TampIA, un Viaje por Tampico,” a digital platform that combines artificial intelligence and augmented reality to offer visitors and residents an interactive guide to the city’s history, culture, gastronomy and main attractions. The app will also include accessibility features to serve people with disabilities, aiming to modernise tourism promotion, strengthen the local economy and advance Tampico’s smart‑city ambitions.

The agreement was formalised at the university campus and involved officials from the municipal DIF, the historic centre authority and youth services, underscoring a broader effort to link academic talent with municipal projects for social benefit.
