Tampico merchants forcibly shave woman accused of theft

In Tampico, Tamaulipas, a woman identified as Carmen “N” was detained and forcibly shaved by local merchants following allegations that she had stolen items from various businesses in the city center.

According to reports, merchants pursued the woman and located her in a supermarket. Once detained, a group of individuals used scissors and a razor to shave her head in public. The incident drew a crowd and raised concerns regarding the legality of the merchants' actions. Police arrived approximately one hour after the initial report and subsequently took the woman into custody.

Ludwig Porras Rangel, the State Guard delegate for southern Tamaulipas, stated that the State Attorney General's Office (FGJ) must investigate the assault. He emphasized that the Constitution prohibits individuals from taking justice into their own hands, noting that while public frustration may be understandable, violence cannot be used to combat crime. As of the reports, no formal complaints had been filed against the woman by the alleged victims, which may affect her legal status.
