Tampico officials call for transparency in school parent associations

Vladimir Castellanos García, a city councilman and member of the Education Commission in Tampico, has urged parent associations and cooperatives to ensure the transparent management of school resources. He emphasized that while the Secretary of Education of Tamaulipas (SET) and the Regional Center for Educational Development (CREDE) monitor government funds, parents are responsible for accounting for money collected through fees, food sales, and federal programs like 'La Escuela es Nuestra'.

Castellanos noted that over 90% of schools manage these funds appropriately to meet campus needs. However, he clarified that school directors should not handle these resources directly; instead, they are managed by parent representatives. To prevent mismanagement, associations are obligated to present annual accounts. If irregularities or suspected crimes occur, parents are encouraged to file formal complaints with the appropriate authorities, including CREDE or the Prosecutor's Office.
