Tampico workers' family protests after 15-meter fall at Chedraui site

Family and friends of Gonzalo Medina Hernández held a protest in Tampico, Tamaulipas, demanding that the construction company and the commercial group Chedraui cover medical expenses following a workplace accident. Medina fell approximately 15 meters while working at a Chedraui Selecto construction site in Plaza Crystal.

Medina remains hospitalized at the Hospital de Especialidades IMSS-BIENESTAR ‘Dr. Carlos Canseco’ with two pelvic fractures. Medical specialists indicate he may require a recovery period of between one and 18 months and may be bedridden during this time. His family alleges that he was performing high-altitude work without a safety harness or basic protective equipment and claims they possess photographic evidence of the incident.

The protesters briefly blocked a lane on Avenida Miguel Hidalgo to draw attention to their demands. The family reports that the companies involved have not made contact to settle hospital bills or medication costs, noting that the initial 10,000 pesos provided by the company is insufficient for the ongoing medical needs. Legal action has been initiated to seek accountability.
