Tamworth Magpies clinch finals spot with one-point win over Barbarians

Tamworth's first‑grade Magpies secured a place in the finals after edging The Barbarians by a single point in a dramatic match at the Alcatraz ground in Armidale. The game was decided in the final three minutes, with the Magpies prevailing 27‑26.

The encounter held special meaning for the Barbarians, who honoured the late John Quinlan by wearing orange socks. Phil Quinlan, John’s brother, played in both the third‑grade and first‑grade sides and marked his brother’s birthday on the field. Barbarians president Marcus Crane praised the club’s season despite the loss.
