Tamworth man sentenced to two years for armed robberies

Christopher Paul Brown, 37, has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Tamworth District Court for a series of armed robberies committed to fund a drug habit. Brown pleaded guilty to robbery-in-company and faced additional charges including resisting a police officer and possession of knives in public.

The court heard that on July 12, 2025, Brown and a co-offender robbed an Ampol service station on Goonoo Goonoo Road. During the incident, a co-offender threatened a worker with what was believed to be a knife, while Brown took $463 and cigarettes. A victim impact statement noted the employee suffered ongoing emotional harm and was unable to work night shifts following the attack.

On July 18, Brown and a co-offender targeted a staff member at the CTC tobacconist on Hobbs Lane in South Tamworth, stealing drinks and attempting to take cash. Brown was subsequently apprehended by police in West Tamworth on July 21, where he was found in possession of two knives.
