Tamworth police operation leads to 17 arrests and $20k drug seizure

A three-day high-visibility police operation in Tamworth resulted in 17 people facing charges for a total of 34 offences. The surge operation, which ran from August 27 to August 29, targeted prohibited drugs, family and domestic violence, traffic violations, knives, and breaches of bail.

During the operation, officers from the Oxley Police District, supported by various regional and specialized commands, seized cannabis with an estimated street value of $20,000. This included 3.6kg of cannabis discovered in an SUV on Goonoo Goonoo Road, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old woman on charges of drug supply and possession.

In addition to the drug seizures, police conducted 19 person searches, 44 bail compliance and domestic violence order checks, and made seven drug detections. Authorities indicated that further surges under Operation Soteria are expected in the future.
