Tamworth residents protest NSW housing rezoning plan

The New South Wales state government has approved a controversial housing development in Tamworth, sparking significant concern among local residents. The plan involves rezoning approximately 15.5 hectares of land near the TAFE and Oxley High School for high-density housing.

Community members have raised alarms regarding the potential strain on public services, specifically citing water security, health, and education. A primary concern is that the development will “landlock” Oxley High School, preventing any future footprint expansion for the institution. Public submissions reflected strong opposition, with 103 objections filed compared to only seven supporters.
