Tan Hai ward rejects merger proposal from Long Son commune

Long Son commune has proposed a merger with the neighboring Tan Hai ward to create a new administrative unit. The goal of this merger is to establish a unified development space covering approximately 108.36 km² with a population of about 50,000 people. This new entity would eventually aim to form a maritime economic zone linked to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster.

However, the Tan Hai ward Party Committee has rejected the proposal, stating that a merger is currently unnecessary. The committee noted that their administrative apparatus is stabilizing and that the ward has its own development potential and integration plans within the broader Ho Chi Minh City planning. Instead of a formal merger, Tan Hai suggested that the two localities focus on cooperation in infrastructure, transport, maritime economy, and trade to achieve shared development goals while maintaining their individual administrative stability.
