Tanaka Town Cleaning Team promotes circular economy through recycling and charity

The Tanaka Town Cleaning Team in Changhua County has implemented an innovative resource recycling initiative to promote a circular economy and reduce waste. The team collects discarded but functional items—including toys, electronics, bicycles, daily necessities, and elderly care aids—which are then repaired, disinfected, and organized.

These items are utilized through two main channels. First, the team hosts second-hand charity bazaars where residents can purchase goods at low prices. The proceeds from these events, such as the recent third bazaar held during the summer festival, are donated to local charities like the Huashan Foundation Tanaka Love Angel Station.

Second, specialized equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers are refurbished by skilled team members. Instead of being sold, these regenerated mobility aids are donated directly to the Changhua County Assistive Technology Resource Center to be distributed to low-income individuals and the elderly in need. Town Mayor Hsiao Shu-fen noted that the program transforms community waste into social resources, fostering both environmental protection and public welfare.
