Tanamalia Block land disputes require dialogue and legal certainty

Resolving tenurial issues in the Tanamalia Block, located in Luwu Timur, South Sulawesi, requires a comprehensive approach involving dialogue, honesty, root cause mapping, government mediation, and legal certainty. This approach is considered vital to ensure that exploration activities with a legal basis can proceed without neglecting the interests of local communities.

Soeryo Adiwibowo, a political ecology expert and lecturer at IPB University, noted that tenurial conflicts are often complex due to overlapping social, economic, and political interests. He emphasized that honesty is essential for building trust between parties. Adiwibowo suggested that companies must maintain consistent communication with the public, while both central and local governments should act as mediators after gaining a deep understanding of the actors and motives involved in the conflict.

The Tanamalia Block is a strategic project area covering Loeha Village and parts of Rante Angin Village, with operations targeted to begin between 2029 and 2031.
