Tanba Sasayama begins autumn harvest of chestnuts and edamame
The autumn harvest season has begun in Tanba Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, with the arrival of premium Tanba chestnuts and black edamame.
Harvesting of Tanba chestnuts has commenced, with an expected shipment of approximately 22.5 tons. Although high temperatures caused the harvest to start one week later than usual, farmers report that the chestnuts possess good sweetness and luster. These high-quality chestnuts are frequently used in luxury confectionery.
Additionally, the seasonal arrival of Tanba Sasayama black edamame has been announced. Known as “phantom edamame” due to its limited availability of only two to three weeks in October, the crop is noted for its intense flavor and exceptional sweetness. Local suppliers are distributing the produce to various locations, including Kobe, Osaka, and Tokyo.
