Tangará da Serra prison officer and inmate arrested for smuggling
A prison officer and an inmate have been arrested at the Tangará da Serra Provisional Detention Center (CDP) in Mato Grosso, Brazil, following the discovery of illicit materials. The incident was detected during a video hearing procedure when staff noticed atypical movement involving an unscheduled inmate visit.
A thorough search of the inmate revealed drugs, cell phones, batteries, plaster, and glue. The inmate was caught in the act of drug trafficking and unauthorized possession of mobile devices within a correctional facility.
The prison officer is suspected of facilitating the entry of these items. Following a custody hearing, a judge converted the officer's arrest into preventive detention, resulting in an automatic suspension from duties. In addition to criminal proceedings, the officer will face a disciplinary administrative process led by the General Inspectorate. The Civil Police are currently investigating the case.
