Tanger Med handles 84 million tonnes of goods in H1 2026
Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) reported significant growth in the first half of 2026, with revenue reaching 2.479 billion dirhams, an 8.6% increase compared to the previous year. During this six-month period, the port complex handled 84 million tonnes of goods, representing a 6% increase in traffic volume.
Growth was driven by expanded maritime connections, including new services from operators such as ONE, Maersk, and X-Press Feeders. The port also welcomed the GNV Aurora, a new generation ferry powered by liquefied natural gas. The MEDHUB logistics zone continues to expand, recently welcoming companies including Aramex, Ipsen Logistics, and La Voie Express Group.
Over the past two decades, Tanger Med has evolved from a regional port into a major global logistics and industrial hub at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. It has risen from 61st to 17th place globally in container port rankings, serving as a critical interceptor for the 10% to 15% of world maritime traffic that passes through the strait.
