Tanger Med Port police officer arrested in drug trafficking investigation
Authorities in Tangier have launched a judicial investigation into an international drug trafficking attempt at Tanger Med Port. The investigation follows the seizure of 13 kilograms of cannabis on September 17.
Police intercepted a utility vehicle driver who was preparing to depart on a sea voyage to Europe after having already completed all border control procedures. Security camera footage revealed that the driver received the shipment at the ship's pier from a security officer holding the rank of 'mouqaddim'.
Both the driver and the police officer have been placed in police custody. The General Directorate of National Security has issued a decision to temporarily suspend the officer from duty pending the outcome of the judicial proceedings and potential disciplinary actions.
