Tangerang: 9-year-old boy dies attempting to rescue friend from quarry lake

A 9-year-old boy named Reyhan died after attempting to rescue a friend from a former sand quarry lake in Jatake Village, Pagedangan District, Tangerang Regency. The incident occurred around 12:00 WIB on Friday, October 2, 2026, while the children were playing and fishing near the water.

Following a 26-hour search operation by Basarnas Jakarta and local teams, the boy's body was recovered at approximately 14:15 WIB on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Search efforts were complicated by the lake's depth, which exceeds 20 meters. The victim was found floating on the surface near the initial report location.
