Tangerang officials prioritize youth mental health and violence prevention

Officials in the Tangerang region are emphasizing social welfare and mental health initiatives for women and youth. Tangerang Vice Regent Intan Nurul Hikmah called for increased synergy with the Komite Muda Perempuan Indonesia (KMPI) to prevent and address violence against women and children. Highlighting the lifelong psychological trauma caused by such violence, Hikmah noted that the local government will involve KMPI in upcoming socialization and education programs in October.

In South Tangerang, Deputy Minister of BKKBN Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes is promoting adolescent mental health through the Pusat Informasi dan Konseling Remaja (PIK-R) program. During a visit to SRMA 33, Bagoes explained that PIK-R provides a peer-to-peer counseling platform where students can share concerns in a comfortable environment. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of family planning, advising couples to avoid the ‘4 Terlalu’ risks: marrying too young, marrying too old, pregnancy intervals that are too close, and having too many children.
