Tangerang Selatan drought expands to 30 locations

Drought conditions in Tangerang Selatan, Indonesia, have expanded to 30 locations, primarily affecting the Setu and Serpong districts. The dry season has caused several residential wells to run completely dry, impacting approximately 844 families or 3,423 individuals.

Local authorities, including the Tangsel BPBD, have distributed over 1.2 million liters of clean water between June 8 and September 17, 2026. This relief effort is a collaborative initiative involving the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), BBWS Ciliwung Cisadane, and private entities such as Sinarmas.

To commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian Red Cross, the PMI Tangsel branch has integrated water distribution with community services, including health check-ups and blood donations, particularly in the Keranggan area. In response to the prolonged dry season, the local government is exploring long-term solutions, such as the construction of artesian wells in affected areas like Keranggan, where water sources are estimated to be deeper than 60 meters.
