Tangier: Arrest of ISIS-affiliated suspect for alleged terror plots

Moroccan judicial police in Tangier arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of being loyal to the terrorist organization ISIS. The operation was conducted following precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

During searches, authorities seized various items, including manuscripts detailing cyberattack methods and electronic devices, such as a modified phone connected to electrical wires. Other confiscated materials included welding equipment, batteries, adhesive tape, nails, electrical switches, and welding goggles.

Investigators also recovered solid and liquid chemicals suspected of being used to manufacture explosives. These substances are undergoing technical and scientific analysis to determine their composition. Preliminary findings suggest the suspect was preparing to carry out terrorist projects within Morocco and had already conducted initial tests to prepare improvised explosive devices. The suspect is currently in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor specialized in terrorism cases to determine the extent of his potential connections both within Morocco and abroad.
