Tango and migration: cultural performances link Italy and Argentina
Musical and theatrical projects exploring the historical links between Italy and Argentina are scheduled for upcoming seasons.
In Buenos Aires, the duo Fabrizio Mocata and Franco Luciani will perform ‘Tangos Cruzados’ at the Teatro Colón on August 26 as part of the Tango BA Festival y Mundial. The project, which blends tango with jazz improvisation, features an album that was nominated for Best Tango Album at the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards. Following their performance in Argentina, the duo will travel to Sicily to perform at the Selinunte Archaeological Park on September 2.
Additionally, actor Gabriele Granito is set to bring his multisensorial monologue to Isernia this autumn. The performance explores the origins of tango through the lens of late 19th-century emigration, following the story of a Puglian fisherman fleeing cholera to settle in Buenos Aires.
