Tango concerts captivate audiences in Termoli and Porto Flavia, Italy

On July 29, the Trio Accord performed a two‑hour program of classic and contemporary tango at the John Dewey Auditorium in Portocannone, Termoli. The concert featured violinist Selene Pedicini, cellist Giovanna D’Amato, and accordionist Manuel Pettilli, accompanied by professional dancers Mariana Avila and Alexandre Bellarosa, presenting works by Astor Piazzolla such as “Oblivion” and “La Cumparsita.”

A few days later, on August 1, the Blue Tango Quartet took the stage at the historic mining area of Porto Flavia in Sardinia. Directed by bandoneonist Fabio Furia, the quartet performed the “New Tango” program, revisiting the unreleased live recordings of Astor Piazzolla and Gary Burton from the 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival. The ensemble included Giacomo Riggi (vibraphone), Giovanni Chiaramonte (double bass) and Marco Schirru (piano). Both events highlighted the enduring appeal of tango music across Italy’s regional venues.
