Tania Flores Guerra remains in custody after failed Hidalgo injunction

A failed legal maneuver involving a federal injunction (amparo) in Hidalgo has failed to secure the release of Tania Flores Guerra, the former mayor of Múzquiz, Coahuila. The legal attempt, which sought to modify her pretrial detention status, was deemed invalid because the Hidalgo court lacked jurisdiction over the case, as the events and the defendant's detention are tied to Coahuila.

Investigations have been launched into the judicial officials involved due to significant irregularities. These include false claims that Flores was being held in Pachuca, when she has remained in the Saltillo Women's Penitentiary since July. The magistrate president of the Coahuila Judiciary, Miguel Felipe Mery Ayup, noted that the suspension granted by the Hidalgo judge was ineffective due to lack of competence.

Following the collapse of the injunction, a control judge in Saltillo reaffirmed the denial of her request to face trial in freedom. Flores Guerra faces approximately 11 investigations related to her administration in Múzquiz, including charges of abuse of functions regarding the illegal assignment of public works. Authorities are also reviewing potential irregularities regarding documents and signatures used during the legal proceedings.
