Tanigawa Construction conducts large-scale seismic testing in Japan

Tanigawa Construction Co., Ltd. conducted full-scale vibration experiments on wooden residential structures at E-Defense, the world’s largest three-dimensional shake table facility located in Hyogo Prefecture. The testing was carried out on September 4, 2026, at the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience.

The experiments utilized seismic waves from several major historical events, including the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake, the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, and the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, as well as simulated seismic motion from a 2026 Kumamoto event. Three types of two-story wooden test specimens were tested: HINOCA models with and without vibration damping devices, and a model with panel strength wall specifications.

Tanigawa Construction intends to analyze the measurement and evaluation data obtained from these tests to improve its housing products and contribute to regional safety and security.
