Tanker train derailment in Ciudad Madero triggers emergency operation

Around 70,000 litres of gasoline spilled from a tanker train that derailed in the Ferrocarrilera Talleres neighbourhood of Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas. The area, located near critical rail and port infrastructure used by Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), prompted the deployment of a joint emergency command involving municipal, state and federal agencies, including fire services, civil protection, medical services, the regional emergency centre, ENGY and the Navy.

Authorities established a perimeter, inspected the tank for leaks and confirmed no fuel was released and no injuries were reported. Technical teams are working to stabilise the unit and eventually remove it, while a temporary census and possible evacuation of nearby families is being carried out to protect residents during the fuel‑transfer operations. The public has been urged to avoid the zone until the situation is fully secured.
