Tanner Houck begins rehab assignment with Portland Sea Dogs

Boston Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday. The move marks a significant step in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in August of last year.

Houck, a 2024 All-Star, has not pitched in a competitive game since May 12, 2025. The initial plan for Tuesday involves pitching approximately 20 pitches, with a second outing expected on Friday to increase his workload to the 40-to-45 pitch range.

While his return to a starting role for the Red Sox remains uncertain for the remainder of the season, the rehab process aims to prepare him for competitive game action. Houck noted that returning around this time was his primary goal since the beginning of his recovery process.
