Tanvi Patri wins Asian U-17 badminton title
Tanvi Patri secured the Asian U-17 girls' singles title at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Chengdu, China, following an all-Indian final against compatriot Shaina Manimuthu. Patri recovered from losing the first game to win the match with a score of 11-15, 15-10, 15-12.
Patri, a 15-year-old from Odisha, navigated a challenging tournament path that included victories over China’s Zhou Jing Li and Shizuku Kashio of Japan, as well as dominant wins against Lin Heng Men and Yu Ying Gui. This victory marks a significant milestone in her 2026 season, which also includes titles at the Pontianak International Challenge and the All India Junior U-19 Badminton Ranking Tournament.
Shaina Manimuthu also reached the final after defeating Yui Itabashi and Anon Okimoto. Additionally, India secured a bronze medal in the U-15 boys’ doubles, earned by Aaditya Singh Negi and Tanmay Verma.
