Tanzania advances digital transformation through innovation and AI training

Tanzania is advancing its digital and developmental goals through new technological initiatives. Innovation Week Tanzania 2026 (IWTz2026) has launched in Dar es Salaam, focusing on transforming the country’s Development Vision 2050 (Dira 2050) into practical solutions. Stakeholders, including the UNDP, emphasized that innovation must move beyond pilot projects to create scalable solutions that improve public services, create jobs, and boost productivity.

In Zanzibar, the Ministry of Communications, Information Technology and Innovation has signed a three-year agreement with the Emerson Education Institute to train 600 public officials in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. This capacity-building effort is part of a broader digital transformation strategy, supported by a budget allocation of approximately US$20.2 million for the 2026/27 period. Other regional efforts include cybersecurity training for auditors in partnership with Indian institutions and AI training for correctional officers conducted by UNESCO.
