Tanzania and Malawi football federations warn referees against betting and corruption
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) warned referees that any involvement in match‑fixing, corruption or gambling will lead to a lifetime ban. At a referees’ training seminar, TFF first vice‑president Athuman Nyamlani described betting and corruption as “two diseases” threatening the sport’s integrity and pledged strict enforcement, especially after controversial decisions involving big clubs Simba and Young Africans.
In Malawi, the Football Association (FAM) opened a five‑day FIFA‑led training course for 30 under‑25 referees in Blantyre. Director of Operations Gomezgani Zakazaka urged the trainees to avoid corruption, saying it could destroy their careers, and stressed the need for professional standards as veteran officials retire. The program aims to build a new generation of referees capable of upholding the Laws of the Game.
