Tanzania and Serbia strengthen trade and investment ties

Tanzania and Serbia are moving to strengthen bilateral relations across several key sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, and the Blue Economy. During a meeting in Belgrade, Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić discussed expanding economic ties, building on a historical friendship rooted in the Non-Aligned Movement.

To facilitate closer diplomatic and economic ties, the Tanzanian government has allocated land in Dodoma for the construction of a permanent Serbian embassy and official residences. Mwinyi noted that Tanzania’s membership in the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) offers Serbia broader access to regional markets.

A business forum held by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia highlighted significant potential for new jobs and investment. While current trade consists largely of Tanzanian coffee, tea, and spices being exported to Serbia, and Serbian fertilizers and pharmaceuticals being imported to Tanzania, officials aim to increase trade volume and explore joint production opportunities in sectors such as energy, mining, and agriculture.
