Tanzania construction professionals urged to align with national development goals

During the sixth Annual General Meeting of the Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQRB) in Arusha, Deputy Minister of Works Godfrey Kasekenya called for the board to develop a specific plan outlining how architectural and quantity surveying professions will contribute to the National Development Vision 2050. Kasekenya emphasized that this plan must include measurable goals and indicators to ensure the construction sector's impact is visible in national development.

Additionally, the Public Procurement Appeals Authority (PPAA) held capacity-building sessions for architects and quantity surveyors regarding fairness and equality in public bidding processes. Agnes Sayi, head of the PPAA Legal Services Department, highlighted the transition to the NeST electronic procurement system. She noted that a new module for handling complaints and appeals has improved transparency, reduced costs, and saved time by allowing bidders to submit grievances electronically rather than traveling to Dodoma.

Kasekenya also urged AQRB to collaborate with the private sector to expand the Architects and Quantity Surveyors Internship Programme (AQIP) and ensure local professionals participate more significantly in large-scale national projects. He noted that the implementation of resolutions from the 2025 meeting currently stands at 62 percent, calling for increased speed in executing remaining objectives.
