Tanzania directs NHIF to prepare medical services for AFCON 2027

The Tanzanian government has directed the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to finalize preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Deputy Health Minister Dr. Florence Samizi emphasized the importance of ensuring international visitors receive seamless, high-quality medical services during the tournament.

Preparations are expected to include emergency care and specialized services, such as cardiology and orthopedics, to meet diverse health needs. Experts from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have already inspected medical service centers and expressed satisfaction with the level of readiness shown by Tanzania.

NHIF Director General Dr. Irene Isaka confirmed that the fund has already developed a specialized insurance package for visitors, which will be presented to the Ministry of Health for final approval.
